The Art of Messaging

Do you want to create a dynamic message that your audience can relate to, reflect on, and most importantly remember?

Here are a few key points to consider when you prepare your message—

Be strategic!  Spend time designing your message.  Figure out why you are communicating this message. Consider using tools to like mind maps which will help you stick to your message.  Generally, putting your thoughts on paper provides a clear road!

Remember, the dictionary defines a message as a “significant point that’s being conveyed”.  Why do you want to communicate this message?  What story do you want to tell?  Do you really have a clear understanding of your point?  Having a clear understanding of your point will ensure the fluency of your message and will you’re your audience on a journey.  

What do you want to deliver?  List the topics in your message.  Determine which topics are most important and include them in your message.  This will help you to be specific and to control communication with your audience.

Who is your audience?  Make sure you, as much as you can, understand the range of people and personalities attending.  Will your message resonate with the audience?  Your audience will drive your decision on the elements of your message that are most important.

Are your ideas supported!  Did you do research to make sure you clearly understand your topic and you can support it during the delivery of your message? Word choice is also key!  Will visuals help?  Choosing the right visuals bolsters understanding.

Remember to examine your tone, gestures, and body language during preparation.  This is part of your communications package.

When preparing your message–be yourself!  This way, your message, and story will be stronger because it’s delivered with authenticity.

Ask yourself questions.  Is your message easy to understand?  Are you, struggling to understand what you are communicating?

The ending of the message is just as important as the beginning.  Take time to develop a powerful conclusion.   What do you want your audience to take-away from your message!

Rehearse, Rehearse, and Rehearse!
